50 Years of Meditation

I began meditating in 1969 after I was discharged from the US Army. I was twenty-five years old and wanted to do something meaningful with my life. I was adrift in a meaningless cycle of self-gratification and was looking for some answers

At first, I looked on meditation as an interesting hobby. I was smoking a lot of pot and listening to Simon and Garfunkel and Cat Stevens. The three activities seemed to fit well together.

In 1971 I bought a dirt bike. I wanted to race it. The focused concentration I developed learning to ride it also helped my meditation. So did an "Alpha-phone", a biofeedback device that allowed me to listen to my brainwaves.

I began to have some serious insights into the mysteries of our existence and my relationship with reality. My mind was opened to the mystical aspects of our universe and the infinite possibilities it contained. My life had taken a remarkable turn.

I am still learning.
